Celebrations were underway in Stockton town centre today as Stockton Riverside College Higher Education students marked the culmination of their hard work.
More than 100 students from the College wore caps and gowns as they paraded from Stockton Town Hall to the Arc where they were honoured with a uniqu
e summer graduation ceremony.
This is the first time the College, which works in partnership with Teesside University, has hosted its own graduation event.
Head of Higher Education Rebecca Wolfe said: “It has been a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate our higher education students and their achievements. We were massively excited to present our own graduation ceremony and delighted to be able to bring the event to Stockton town centre.”
Stockton Riverside College offers a wide range of higher education and professional courses at its Teesdale campus in Stockton. Today’s event recognised those achieving Teesside University foundation degrees and full honours degrees delivered at the College.
Stockton Riverside College’s Principal and Chief Executive Phil Cook said: “We were very proud to be able to bring this event to Stockton, we are a local college focussed on meeting local needs and we are so pleased to be able to deliver, for the first time, a higher education graduation event in our borough.
“Yet again our students have made some remarkable achievements and it was a privilege to be with them today and to be joined in our celebration by friends and families of the students, but also by our governors, our staff, the Mayor of Stockton, senior officers from Stockton Borough Council and of course Teesside University colleagues.
“A great day for our students but also for our community.”
Professor Mark Simpson, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching) at Teesside University, said: “Earlier this year we signed the new Teesside University College Partnership which will provide even wider access to higher education courses in the Tees Valley.
“The students graduating today have shown a tremendous amount of hard work and dedication and they should all be extremely proud of their achievements.”
