A visit to mima proved an inspiration for Foundation students from Stockton Riverside College. Not only did the learners pick up a valuable lesson in travel safety awareness but the group also returned feeling creative.
The students put together their own artwork, inspired by the themes explored at the Middlesbrough institute of modern art.
Foundation skills lecturer Leanne Nixon said: “We bought charcoal and watercolours and the students created their own work which we put up around the classroom using masking tape as they had at mima.”The visit, which saw three groups of students visit the gallery over the course of a day, was part of the Entry Level 3 Certificate in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development, contributing to the Travel Safety Awareness unit.
Leanne explained that the qualification also includes a unit encouraging students to explore enterprise opportunities.
“The students got lots of ideas from the visit to mima. It was really inspiring and they have been sharing and discussing ideas.”
