The college in Billingham welcomed a special visit from Lotus Guan, Director of the Shaanxi Province Service Centre for Scholarly Exchange in Xi’an, China.

International Manager, Sissi Liu-Covell, said: “The purpose of the visit was two-fold, deepening the partnership with SRC Bede, and investigating vocational cooperation opportunities between Stockton Riverside College and a Chinese vocational college, Shaanxi College of Communication Technology.”

SRC Bede Sixth Form currently has five international students from China studying at the college.

Sissi said: “A levels are international qualifications that are accepted all over the world.”

Given SRC Bede’s great results and Good Ofsted rating, she said, the college can be an attractive option for Chinese students looking to study in the UK.

As for the benefits to the college and all of its students, Sissi said: “It offers more international diversity, offering all of our students the chance to experience and further understand the Chinese culture. It also helps further challenge students in some A level subjects.”

During the two-day whistle-stop visit, Lotus, the director of the Shaanxi scholarly exchange service, met with managers, staff and current international students at SRC Bede Sixth Form. She called on host families and visited The Skills Academy, NETA and Stockton Riverside College’s Teesdale campus.

Director of SRC Bede, Rick Wells, said: “Lotus is a good friend of mine whom I have known for nine years, but this is the first opportunity I have had to welcome her to my home.

“I know that Stockton Riverside College and SRC Bede Sixth Form will continue to have a very successful partnership with Lotus in the coming years.”

Meeting with Stockton Riverside College’s Principal and Chief Executive, Phil Cook, to discuss potential further co-operation opportunities in the future, Lotus also got to share a spot of traditional afternoon tea.
