Bede Sixth Form College has been presented with a Royal British Legion pennant after hosting the charity’s Northumbria Regional annual conference.
The symbol was handed to the college’s Chair of the Governing Board Mark White OBE DL by the President of the Billingham branch on behalf of the Royal British Legion Northumbria Region.
Billingham Branch President Kevin Pitt said: “Bede Sixth Form is the beating heart of our community and the Billingham branch of the Royal British Legion is proud to be associated with the college and appreciate their support in hosting this year’s annual conference,”
The Royal British Legion is a charity that provides financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces and their families.
A former serviceman himself, Kevin said: “I am very proud to be a part of the Billingham branch and the work that we do to help people in our locality.
“It is important for us to have strong links with the young people to talk about the Royal British Legion and the work that we do. We regularly visit our local schools and colleges as they are our next generation.”
Always welcoming new members, membership is available to all adults and youth members aged 12 to 18.
The regional conference at Bede Sixth Form saw visitors from branches right across the region gather in Billingham.
The college’s Chair Mark White, who is a member of the charity’s Billingham branch himself, said: “It was a great privilege for Bede Sixth Form to host the annual meeting of the Northumbria Royal British Legion. We are honoured to work closely with the fantastically energetic Billingham branch of the Legion and I am also very proud to be a member. This pennant will have pride of place in our college.”
