sophie-clayton-src-libraryThe reality of becoming an early years’ teacher is one step closer for Stockton Riverside College student, Sophie Clayton.

The 18-year-old, former Thornaby Academy student, set her sights on becoming a teacher in the early years sector when she was in school and now has a position at local day nursery.

Sophie, who lives in Thornaby, said: “Becoming a teacher is something I have wanted to do since I was young. The course has taught me a lot about the real world and has opened my eyes to the skills you need to succeed in life.”

Sophie will return to Stockton Riverside College next year as she continues her studies on the FdA Early Years course.

Sophie added: “I’ve loved it here. The lecturers are always there for you and support you in everything you do. It’s one of the main reasons I have chosen to stay on and study here next year.”

Lecturer, Julie Rose, said: “Sophie has been a dedicated and motivated student from day one. She completed her award early due to her own commitment to the course. She has been a supportive, fun member of the class who has been a pleasure to teach.”

Julie added: “Her ultimate ambition is to be an early years’ teacher but whatever she chooses to do in her life she will give 100%.”

Speaking of her time at College, Sophie described the help and support that attracted her to study at Stockton Riverside College originally. She said: “It’s really friendly here; it’s a place where you just click. From the very first open evening I felt welcome and at home.

“I tell people all the time to come here. It’s a really friendly place with a great atmosphere.”
