It's day 31 and our charity walkers are more than ready to put their feet up.

At Stockton Riverside College we have been taking part in the Cancer Research UK Walk All Over Cancer.

The challenge is to hit your 10,000 steps a day target every day throughout March.

While it might sound simple, as our group soon found, it's not always as easy as you think.

Our Students' Union President Daniel Conaghan is among those to step up.

We asked the Performing Arts Acting student about his experience so far.

Why did you decide to take part in the Cancer Research UK Walk All Over Cancer?

Because we are part of the Students' Union and as such it is up to us to set a good example, plus it raises awareness of a good cause.

How challenging has it been for you?

Initially it sounded simple and like something I could easily do but 10,000 steps is more than you think.

How many steps would you normally do a day?

Certainly not 10,000, before this it was probably about 6/7000. The challenge has been good as it makes you more aware of how many steps you should be doing.

What has been the toughest part?

For me it has been finding the time, but the benefit of this is that every step counts. Studying Performing Arts Acting is quite movement based so that helps as you can incorporate the challenge into everyday life.

What would be your top tip?

Making it a competition with friends is a good way to get your steps up as it gets you involved and it's fun.

Do you want to play a more active part in college life? Why not join our Students’ Union and help create an even better college environment for yourself and other students? A voice for the students the union is here to represent you. If you would like to get involved speak to Student Services.
