Dance fever hit Billingham as dozens of future stars of stage and screen came together to hone their moves.

Young performers from dance schools across the region gathered at SRC Bede Sixth Form for the summer dance convention, featuring a one-off workshop with guest instructor, choreographer Robert Hamilton.
The former West End performer, who has worked behind the scenes with dance groups on Britain’s Got Talent and Sky 1’s Got to Dance, put dancers aged from five to 24 through their paces as part of the three-day dance extravaganza.
Organiser Toni Armstrong of Planet Dance said: “We were delighted to have Robert Hamilton join us for one of the days and the youngsters were particularly excited as he is a renowned name in the dance world.”
Around 70 youngsters attended the Summer Dance Intensive, with the chance to learn from a selection of the region’s dance instructors. The convention attracted dancers all the way from Rotherham to Newcastle.
Toni said: “Our aim was to bring these young people together and offer workshops in a variety of genres of dance. It’s brilliant to be able to bring this sort of event and training of this calibre to the North-east.”

Known for his dramatic self-created choreography, Robert has twice worked with groups that have reached the finals of Britain’s Got Talent, The Fusion and Mini Moves.
He has also worked with groups who went on to reach the finals of Sky 1’s Got to Dance, four years in a row.
Visiting Billingham for the first time, the 40-year-old, originally from Glasgow, encouraged the youngsters to be creative and individual in their work.
Having trained in both Italy and New York this year he said: “I have worked with teachers from all over the world and I love being able to pass on what I have learned.
“I am a big believer in the more you give the more you get back. When I was asked to come and deliver this workshop I was happy to get involved as it is a new place for me and it’s a chance for me to share with new people.”
