Brave staff and students have been getting stuck into a fundraising effort at Stockton Riverside College.

Three plucky volunteers tore strips off their target by agreeing to undergo a sponsored leg wax.

Raising money to help premature and poorly babies and their families passing through the Neonatal Unit at the University Hospital of North Tees, Health and Social Care student, Liam Palfreeman, came up with the idea.

“We have all been trying to think of suggestions and this was something a bit different that I could do,” said the 19-year-old from Norton.

Not to be outdone the courageous student was joined by Access to Science teacher, James Wells, and apprentice Learning Resource Centre assistant, Tristan Smith.

The trio put their hairy legs in the expert hands of a team of Beauty Therapy students.

Braving the wax in front of crowd of intrigued spectators Liam said: “It seemed like a good idea at the time but it did get more painful as it went on.”

James, 32, from Richmond, added: “It did hurt, more than I expected.”

Despite the pain all three agreed that it was worth it knowing that they were raising money for such a good cause.

Students and staff from Stockton Riverside College’s Health and Social Care and Childcare courses are currently taking part in a range of fundraising activities for Neoangels, a charity launched last year at the University Hospital of North Tees supporting premature and sick new born babies and their families on the neonatal unit.
