Breakfast started with a tempting twist thanks to generous volunteers who had put their baking skills to the test.

dsc09649“We wanted to play our part at the college because Macmillan Cancer Support is such a worthy cause,” said Nikki Thurston, Apprenticeships Administrator and part of the event’s organising team.

“It is a charity that is close to everybody’s heart as everyone is affected by cancer one way or another.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s largest fundraising event, inviting people from across the UK to host their own coffee morning, with all donations going to the charity.

Last year £25m was raised nationally and this year is expected to be even bigger and better.

At Stockton Riverside College, Nikki said: “Everyone at the college is always so supportive and keen to get involved.

“This is our second year of hosting our own World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, last year we raised £231 and this year we look set to smash our target.”

The event was organised by the college’s Staff Association, with additional cake stalls from student services and learners with learning difficulties and disabilities. The college’s catering department also stepped up, providing tea and coffee.
