Upcoming filmmakers got their first taste of life on the red carpet at Stockton Riverside College’s annual film and TV awards.
The event puts the spotlight on fresh talent with a special premiere evening showcasing students’ work.
“For many it was the first time they will have seen their work on the big screen,” said Creative Film Production lecturer Kelly Fairhurst.
But impressed with the standard of the work being produced by the creative teams, she is confident that it won't be the last.
“The students have blown me away this year, it has been a real eye-opener of what young people can do if you let their imagination run wild,” said Kelly.
“I am very proud and grateful to have met them and I’m very excited to see what’s ahead.”
With awards handed out for the likes of best picture, best director and best cinematography, there was also recognition for Performing Arts Acting students with best actor and best actress awards and Production Arts Makeup students with best makeup and best special effects makeup.
Winner of the best picture award Danniella Cooper said: “It has been like a whirlwind. It doesn’t feel like it has been two years but when you look back at the amount of work we have produced it is crazy.
“This course allows you that freedom, whatever your ideas, however crazy or ambitious, you can do them here.”
Working closely with fellow creative students to maximise the quality of their work, she said: “When you come here to study film and TV you know that you are not going to be able to make a film on your own, it is very much a team effort and you have got to rely on each other.
“We want to showcase not only what we can do but also showcase the work of other courses in the college such as Production Arts Makeup and Performing Arts Acting.”
