Sport and Public Services students celebrated their achievements with an awards ceremony in Billingham.

The SRC Bede Sixth Form students took a break from their active schedules to recognise the highlights of the academic year.

With awards for success, top effort and simply having an all-round great attitude, the event at Billingham Sythonia Social Club marked the culmination of months of hard work and dedication.

Many students will now move on to university, employment or further training, with their ambitions set on great things ahead.

Karl Johnson, programme area leader for Sport and Public Services, said: “This event is a great chance to bring all of our students together to celebrate all of their achievements over the last year.

“Choosing our award winners is always a difficult task with so many worthy contenders. Well done to all of our students who have shown fantastic dedication, effort and commitment.”

Garreth Evans, course leader for Public Services, said: “I can honestly say that each and every one of my learners have given their all in every challenge I have set them. They have grown as individuals and as a family. Some of them are now leaving us to go onto Higher Education or direct employment into the Royal Marines and Army.

“For me this has been one of the best years I have had in teaching, simply because of how my learners have improved.”

Special awards went to Sport Student of the Year Amy Carr and Public Services Student of the Year (for the second year running) Lauren Bewick.

Amy, 18, of Eaglescliffe, said: “I feel honoured to have won Student of the Year for Sport, I have worked hard but I didn’t expect to win this at all.

Now off to continue her studies at York St John University, of the Sport course at SRC Bede, she said: “I am so grateful to have had this opportunity and I am overwhelmed with the amount of support that I’ve had. I am really sad to be leaving.”

Lauren, 18, from Stockton, said: “It feels amazing to have won Public Services Student of the Year for the second time, I wasn’t expecting it.

“I have loved the course, it has given me so many opportunities to see all aspects of the different public services and to improve my skills.”
