A Stockton Riverside College student is celebrating success after receiving our Student of the month award in Construction.

Lewis Horne, 17, from Billingham, studied Multi Skills last year and has now progressed onto studying Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying. He received his award for excellent attendance and academic progress.

Lewis, who went to Abbey Hill School, said, “I was shocked when I heard my name called but impressed that I had won after hearing all the things John had said. It is nice to be recognised for my hard work.

“I studied Multi Skills last year and enjoyed bricklaying so I decided to carry on studying it this year.”

Programme Area Leader for Construction, John Cartwright, said: “I chose Lewis for Student of the Month due to the progress he has made on the course. Lewis used to be a very quiet member of the class but over the past few months he has really opened up.”

He added: “He is always on time and his hard work and determination shines through in his work. He is a pleasure to teach.”

Michael Duffey, Head of Department for Construction, Engineering & Business, talked about why they started giving out the Student of the Month award: “Student of the Month was something that we started last year to recognise the hard work of our learners and we were keen to continue it this year.”

He continued, “Student of the Month is a pat on the back for learners that show hard work and determination across the department.”

Lewis was not only awarded a certificate for his progress, but also received a £10 high street voucher.

Well done Lewis.
