We’ve started our new sports season with a bang, with three games taking place on the same afternoon.

Our netball team were first to start on Wednesday, playing the strong Gateshead 1sts. It was always going to be a tough test, but our girls played a very good game and gave it their all, improving on our techniques from previous years. The game ended 66-18 to the Gateshead 1sts, and Georgia Stockdale was named SRC Bede’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.

Our open age football team played East Durham in the NECL open age league. The match finished 8-6 and was a thrilling game throughout. Goal scorers were Elliot Pledger with 4 goals, Corin Newman and Jake Newton. Coach Liam Stobbs’ man of the match was Lewis Hall, who “didn’t put a foot wrong all game”.

The u18s football team also played against East Durham in the NECL championship league. This game had less goals but was definitely still just as entertaining – a long throw in from Marty Marshall saw the ball rebounded into the opposition net off their own player. Man of the match was given to Callum McKinlay who made a number of outstanding saves. U18 coach Billy Askew who gave McKinlay the MOTM award said: “some of his saves were the reason we got a valuable point today”.
