From assessing aircraft flight characteristics, code breaking and heat exchange systems to creating a healthy smoothie in food science and nutrition, SRC Bede Sixth Form students were busy learning the skills needed to solve real-world problems at Teesside University’s STEMulate event last week. The day provided a taster into university subjects such as Science, Engineering, Technology and Maths (STEM) and a chance to check out the facilities.

Equipped with a base of knowledge in the STEM field, our students already study one or a combination of the following subjects at SRC Bede: Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, Computer Science and ICT. STEMulate enabled our Year 12s to explore how these subjects can translate into a range of different university degrees.

One university course taking learning to new heights is Aerospace Engineering, where students are currently working on an out of this world project to put a rocket into space, launched from a high altitude balloon!

With countless careers available in STEM, students could be the next computer programmers, mechanical engineers, food science technicians, chemists, physicists, accountants, pharmacists… the list goes on!

Do you fancy yourself as a budding scientist or mathematician? Take a look at the courses on offer at SRC Bede here: https://www.stockton.ac.uk/courses/a-levels/
