Employers and industry experts have been helping to inspire young people to consider a future career in logistics.

This week saw the Tees Valley Logistics Academy hold a dedicated schools’ day at Stockton Riverside College.

Aimed at raising awareness of the sector and putting the spotlight on career opportunities, the College welcomed speakers from industry giants Caterpillar, PD Ports and AV Dawson.

The teams shared their knowledge with young visitors from St Patrick’s Catholic College, Rye Hills Academy and Dyke House Sports and Technology College.

Paul Barnes and Ryan McPhillips are both supply chain logistics managers for Caterpillar Peterlee. Paul said: “Events like this give young people a real insight. You can make a real career in logistics.”

Ryan added: “There are so many different aspects to it, every day is different. It involves problem solving, working with people and processes. It really is the full package.”

Anthony Suddes, marketing and communications manager for AV Dawson, said: “Absolutely fantastic day, working with some fantastic local schools. Hopefully we have opened their eyes to some of the exciting logistics opportunities here on Teesside.” (Twitter)

Kirsten Donkin, head of PR, marketing and communications at PD Ports, said: “So rewarding to be able to share our insight and experience with local schools, helping to inspire and generate interest in logistics.” (Twitter)
