Introduction

This qualification aims to introduce learners to simple and basic skills in British Sign Language(BSL), to enable them to communicate with Deaf people on everyday topics in accordance with the National Language Standards at Entry Level. The IBSL Entry Level Award in British Sign Language is part of a range of qualifications designed to provide a stepping stone approach for individuals to develop their communication skills. It can ultimately lead onto a qualified sign language interpreter status in the future or a career working with people who are deaf. This is a life skill which can be used in everyday life as an essential communication tool.

What will I learn

This course is made up of three units. • Understand Basic Information in British Sign Language • Develop strategies to acquire simple and basic British Sign Language skills • Take part in and follow simple conversations in British Sign Language

How will I learn

Learning will be classroom based with a variety of lectures, seminars, electronic resources, group work, presentations and active learning sessions.
