Spanish is a world language of major importance in the global market place. This course will allow students to develop confidence and communication skills as well as an enthusiasm for languages in general. Possessing the skills to communicate in a foreign language opens up a range of opportunities that could give you the competitive edge when applying to university or when seeking employment.

You will learn to express your own ideas in Spanish. This will involve developing your knowledge of the structure and rules of the Spanish language in a systematic and practical fashion. You will learn about Spanish culture through study of a variety of texts and sources.

You will learn in small groups, in a supportive environment and develop your ability to discuss topics such as education, tourism, youth culture, health, etc. At the same time you will gain a solid foundation in grammar that will enable you to take Spanish further or take up the study of another language in the future.

You will be assessed via written and spoken exams in four units. These units cover a range of topics, contexts and genres and will strengthen your knowledge of Spanish culture.

To have achieved A*/9-C/4 grades in at least seven GCSE programmes, including GCSE English and Maths, and a grade C/4 in GCSE Spanish. We will also consider a grade C/4 or above in another language (French, German).

Studying Spanish at A level opens up a range of opportunities in the world of work. Businesses are keen to employ people who possess language skills as they can be deployed immediately into a variety of roles and situations across the globe.
