What will you do?

  • Understanding the business of retail

  • Understand how a retail business maintains health, safety and security on its premises
  • Understand how individuals and teams contribute to the effectiveness of a retail business

How will I learn?

Classroom contact including tutor led discussion/ group work/assignment. Learners will be encouraged and supported to develop sound independent learning skills in preparation for study at higher education level.

How am I assessed?

A portfolio of evidence.  Assessment methods will include:  presentations, report writing and group work.

How much does the course cost?

FREE

£120 withdraw or non-completion fee applies if you do not complete your course.

You need:

It is expected that learners will have progressed from Retail Knowledge Level 1 Award.  However, all applicants will be considered subject to interview.

What will you do?

How will I learn?

Assessment visits will take place every month within the learner’s workplace, action plans are set with work to be completed.

 

How am I assessed?

The learner will build up a portfolio of evidence for this qualification, this can be electronic via Smart Assessor or paper based. Your assessor will visit you in the work place to carry out assessments including observations and discussions.

Students must progress from the level 1 qualification or hold 4 GCSEs at grade E or above. A passion for working within the Retail sector is essential.

Apprenticeship

An Apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to get into the world of work and earn real money whilst gaining nationally recognised qualifications.

Retail Apprenticeships

As a retail apprentice you could work in a host of businesses from market stalls and independent shops to national chains and large superstores.
Retail apprenticeships cover a range of skills which can be used across the retail sector including customer service, working with stock and sales.

Main Duties:

As a level 2 apprentice, duties may include:
• Helping customers choose products
• Dealing with customer queries
• Processing payments
• Helping to provide a positive and ‘seamless’ service
• Advising and supporting customers in the use of web-based facilities in-store
• Handling stock and deliveries
• Receiving, storing and picking stock for the sales floor
• Promoting special offers and/or store cards
• Handling complaints or passing them on to a manager

As a level 3 apprentice, duties may include:
• Managing small teams or individual members of staff
• Managing the shop floor or stockroom
• Overseeing day-to-day operations
• Setting up window displays

Assessment:

The way that apprenticeships are delivered is changing. Some apprenticeships now include an end-point assessment which includes:
• A multiple choice short answer test
• An observation of practice which is undertaken in the workplace
• A learning journal to reflect on the last 3 months of your apprenticeship
• A presentation

You will be supported throughout the process by your assessor.

You need:

Apprenticeships require a good level of English, maths and/or ICT. Our initial assessment and your GCSE results will help inform us of your ability and what support we can offer to get you to the level required.

If you do not hold the relevant GCSEs you will need to complete the Functional Skills qualifications as part of your apprenticeship.

You must be:

  • at least 16
  • a UK resident
  • in employment. We can help with this

To undertake a level 3 apprenticeship, you need a level 2 qualification or to have experience in a relevant field.

Duration:

Level 2: 12 months
Level 3: 18 months
