In our ever increasing image-based society, having the knowledge and experience of photographic image making can lead to a number of fulfilling and lucrative creative careers. We’ve never been better equipped to capture those special moments that crop up in our everyday lives. At the click of a button, or the swipe of a screen, we can instantly record those picture perfect moments. But with a good eye and some technical skills those nice snaps can soon become a piece of art.

What will I study?
On our Photography (lens and light-based media) course you’ll produce practical and critical work in areas such as portraiture landscape photography, still life, documentary photography, photojournalism, experimental imagery, photographic installation and film.
How will I learn?
Students learn through focussed skills workshops, group work, shooting on location, group critiques and presentations. Regular homework tasks will be included to reinforce learning.
How will I be assessed?
All units are based on four assessment objectives covering the student’s ability to research, experiment with techniques and develop an idea to an outcome. Students will sit 1 x ten-hour practical exam at the end of Year 2. Final grades will be based on the culmination of both coursework and exam.
To have achieved A*/9-C/4 grades in at least seven GCSE programmes, including GCSE English and Maths.
What else do I need to know?
Practical skills are embedded within this course. Students can look forward to exciting visits to locations, museums and galleries, and the opportunity to attend an annual trip to Barcelona.
Studying photography could lead to degree in the arts, with future careers including photojournalism, commercial photography, animation, film, and television. Picture that!
