BTEC Music Technology

As a Music Technology student you’ll cover many aspects of the recording and sound industry, learning classic and modern sound recording techniques, recording songs and sounds, and improving your listening skills. You’ll record musicians, bands and soloists and develop your own skills as an engineer.

Over the duration of two years you will be introduced to the exciting world of audio engineering and production, developing the necessary skills to be able to operate our state-of-the-art recording studio.

The course follows a pattern of knowledge and skills development, and then assessment through assignments and a practical exam that are directly related to current industry practice.

To have achieved A*/9-C/4 grades in at least five GCSE programmes, including either GCSE English or GCSE Maths. You must have a grade C/4 in GCSE Music, or the ability to play an instrument or sing.

There is no specific requirement for equipment on the Music Technology course. However, it is recommended that you own a good quality pair of headphones (closed back) and a portable hard drive.

Our students have worked with signed bands on music videos, live gigs and TV and film soundtracks for major companies such as BBC and Sky. Student satisfaction with the Music Technology course is consistently high and results are always excellent.

Our Music Technologists have successfully gained employment in companies such as EA Games, Rough Trade, and Beggar’s Banquet Records. Former students have also found success in bands and as solo artists.
