This creative course provides a fantastic opportunity to learn how to create computer games in one of the fastest developing creative industries. You will gain a solid foundation of the creative process involved in character design, conceptual art and visual design aspects of computer games required to convert a game concept into reality. This course is equivalent of up to three and a half A levels.

Are you interested in becoming part of one of the most exciting and fastest growing sectors of the creative media industry? Set to be bigger than Hollywood, the Gaming Industry has seen huge growth over the last few years with computer game sales at an all-time high. With incredible advances in technology and creative possibilities, the Games Industry offers a wide range of interesting career opportunities.

You will develop your skills in character design, conceptual art and visual design aspects of computer games and learn about how computer games are designed, developed and produced through both practical and theoretical study. You will learn in our purpose-built design studios with a first-class studio environment equipped with industry-standard media production software and hardware. Ours is the only colleges in the North East with Motion Capture technology.

Games Design – Level 2 Creative Games & Media

Careers in video game production and creative media have never been as in demand. With digital technology and video game sales booming, your ideas can quickly be brought to life. Our Creative Media and Games course will teach you the technical skills to and give you the knowledge and inspiration to explore your own ideas using technologies such as Virtual Reality (Oculus Rift) and specialist digital software such as Unreal.

Attendance: Full-time

Duration: One year

Starting date: September 2020

Location: Teesdale


What will you do?

With a focus on work this practical course will see you creating your own projects and assignments in our design studios. Working to briefs based on the real world you’ll get to see what life’s really like in this vibrant industry.


How am I assessed?

Units are internally assessed coursework which are assessed by your lecturers


You need:

Entry Requirements An interest in working in the games and media industries and a minimum of four GCSEs grade 3/D including English and maths


Why English and maths matter…

Careers in creative media could require following or writing detailed instructions, writing reports, resizing image dimensions and calculating.


What’s next?

Progress to a relevant Level 3 course or a Level 3 Extended Diploma.

Games Design Level 3 – Games and Animation

This creative course provides a fantastic opportunity to learn how to create computer games in one of the fastest developing creative industries in the world. You will gain a solid foundation of the creative processes involved in 3D modelling, environment design, character design, animation, concept art, games engines and virtual reality. You will learn how to take your ideas and turn them into a fully working video game.

 

Attendance: Full-time

Duration: Two years

Starting date: September 2020

Location: Teesdale


What will you do?

This practical course covers a range of exciting units covering games design, character design, computer game engines, 3D modelling, 3D animation and 3D environments amongst many more! The course will culminate in you working with a team to develop your own fully functional multi-level computer game!


How am I assessed?

Units are internally assessed coursework which are assessed by your lecturers

 

Entry Requirements: A passion for creativity and a minimum of four GCSEs graded between 4 – 9, including English and maths.
