We have a wide range of services to help you succeed. Our priority is to help you get settled into the college and onto your course and give you the support and guidance you need for this.

Our staff can help with everything from benefits and housing to emotional support or just be someone to talk to!

We can help you manage your coursework and can also work with you to identify the best techniques and tactics to do this.

We have students with a wide range of needs and we work with each to create individual support plans including particular exam arrangements, help with exam techniques, study skills, revision skills, organisation skills and much more.

We offer support in and out of class, as needed including personal one-to-one support. We’re with you all the way!

Personal Development

Our Learning Support Team offers a wide range of support for students. Support is available during the day and evenings for all eligible students.

It can be a one-to-one session or within a group setting. Parents are welcome to speak to a member of the team.

Careers, higher education and progression guidance

Proud of our ‘Investors in Careers’ quality award, our specialist careers guidance staff will help you make those important decisions about taking your next step – whether you plan to go to university, whether you are still undecided about your goals or whether you see yourself in a particular job. We offer one-to-one guidance, university taster courses and open day visits, a higher education and employment conference, help with applications and interviews and other activities throughout the year.


C card

The Wellbeing Advisors work with Stockton Borough Council to operate the C Card scheme at SRC. They issue advice and information on services in Stockton and issue condoms to registered users. Call into the Youth Work office for more advice, or Wellbeing (Bede).


Learning Support for HE Learners

Specialist 1:1 Dyslexia Support

A Specialist 1:1 Dyslexia Support service is available from Stockton Riverside College for learners who may require additional support to address their individual needs, such as:

  • Improving English skills
  • Proofreading techniques
  • Developing strategies to aid retentive learning
  • Improve organisation, planning and structure of essays, assignments and reports
  • Address spelling strategies and specialist terminology
  • Develop note taking skills and reading techniques

Sessions will be held on a regular basis or as required with the Dyslexia Specialist and will focus on your individual needs; aims will be set so you can track your progress. The specialist support will allow learners to develop their current skills, manage their workload and encourage academic work to the best of the learner’s ability.

Communication Support Workers (CSW)

A Communication Support Workers (CSW) service is available from Stockton Riverside College for deaf/hard of hearing learners who may require additional support in class to receive information and communicate with peers and teaching staff in class. The support will be tailored to their individual needs address, such as:

  • Communicating the spoken English into British Sign Language
  • Note taking
  • Lip reading
  • Communicating written English text and clarifying meaning
  • Increase the learner’s confidence and involvement in class by promoting interaction with peers
