Over the next 12 weeks we will be following our Stockton Prince’s Trust leaders and their new group of students and giving you a behind the scenes look as they learn more about themselves and take part in a number of exciting team building activities.

We joined the group on Friday afternoon as their first week of the programme was coming to an end. Working in small teams, the groups were challenged with designing and making a sofa balloon chair, sturdy and stable enough to hold the weight of group leader Nav.

With a few burst balloons and a lot of sellotape, each group worked together to produce very colourful, yet very squeaky furniture! Despite some being more successful than others, we noticed that each group, despite only knowing each other for five days, were already laughing, joking, encouraging and listening to each other’s ideas.

During the task we sat down with new student Shannon who, in between blowing up balloons, spoke very positively about her first week with the Prince’s Trust.

Shannon, said: “I’ve really enjoyed my first week, the staff are very helpful and approachable and I’ve enjoyed getting to know everybody else on the course.

“So far we have taken part in some team building activities and also listened to talks about things like road safety, and using the virtual reality headsets.

“It has only been a week but I already feel more confident in myself and I’m looking forward to the next eleven weeks.”

Although it is only the first week, it was clear to us the importance of team building activities and also how getting to know your team mates can make a real difference in confidence. We feel we have learned that you are not only gaining a recognised qualification with the Prince’s Trust, but also picking up valuable life skills that will benefit you in both education and employment.

Keep an eye out next week for a look at how week two is going for our Prince’s Trust Stockton students!
