It’s not just current students we’ve had visit us today – we’ve had some familiar faces and former students popping in too!

Maria, 17, has received her first year results today, achieving Merit in Applied Science and Distinction* in Health & Social Care. She plans to do something linked to science in the future, and wants to go to university to continue her studies after college.

A former student of North Shore Academy, Maria felt good after receiving her results: “I’m happy with what I’ve got, and I’ve enjoyed my first year – the teachers are really nice and supportive here.”

For her older sister, Hadiqa (19), coming in to support Maria today has been like coming home.

A former Bede Sixth Form student herself, Hadiqa said: “I was nervous when I was collecting my own first and second year results – today I feel nervous for my sister collecting hers, it’s like I’ve gone back in time!”

Hadiqa studied Sociology, English Language and BTEC Law here at Bede, and is now going into the second year of her LLB at Teesside University. Currently volunteering with Citizens Advice to build up her legal experience, Hadiqa plans to go on to complete the LPC after her degree and aspires to be a solicitor in the future.

Reflecting on her own time here at the College, Hadiqa said: “I chose to study here because it was a very welcoming college. There are lots of courses to choose from, which meant that I could choose the exact mix of subjects that I wanted. The teachers are dedicated to helping students achieve their best and were very supportive throughout my time here.”

Peter Rowlands, Course Leader for Law at Bede, said he was very proud of how well his former student was doing.

Maria and Hadiqa’s family moved to the UK from Norway in 2016. The sisters were both born in Norway, and English is their third language, making how well they’ve both done even more impressive.

We look forward to welcoming Maria back for her second year this autumn, and can’t wait to see what the two sisters go on to achieve.
