FROM Edinburgh to Stockton, there’s a new venue on the circuit for fans of fringe theatre.

But you will have to act fast if you want to secure your place because tickets are limited.

Stockton Riverside College has announced plans to open the doors to its Margaret Armstrong Theatre with an exciting line-up of one-off professional shows.

“We are particularly keen to bring in a range of different styles of performance, including a lot of fringe theatre and new writing,” said the college’s Theatre Programmer Paul Jeffries.

Dropping in new and exclusive shows to its current student season, audiences are being encouraged to keep a look out for all of the latest announcements.

Following a successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the date has already been set for the first professional performance this November with a one man show bringing to life, The Trials of Galileo, from the Icarus Theatre Collective.

Starring Royal Shakespeare Company actor Tim Hardy, the play focuses on the events surrounding one of the world’s most famous scientists, Galileo, and his trial for heresy in 1633.

“I am a bit of a science geek and Galileo is a hero of mine, so I am really excited to be able to bring this to Stockton,” said Paul. “Tim Hardy is a world class actor, so to have him performing in our college theatre is a huge honour.”

It will be closely followed by another play straight from the Edinburgh Festival, Fallen Fruit, this time from Two Destination Language.

Exploring political themes of communism and its end in 1989, Fallen Fruit is described as “a story of love, breaking free and Europe” told through the migrant voice of Katherina Radeva, a woman born in communist Bulgaria.

“I saw Fallen Fruit at Edinburgh this year and love it so much I immediately contacted the company to see if it was available. Happily it was and I look forward to showing Stockton this engaging performer, as she tells her own story as a young girl growing up behind the Iron curtain,” said Paul.

Offering a unique festival experience in Stockton, both plays will be followed by a post-show discussion with the chance to ask questions.

The Trials of Galileo is showing at the Margaret Armstrong Theatre, Stockton Riverside College, on Tuesday November 13, 7.30pm, and Fallen Fruit, Thursday November 22, 7.30pm.

Both shows cost £10 adults, £8 concessions and £5 per ticket for school bookings.
