The Skills Academy is a small and friendly local college.

The Skills Academy is a Billingham based college where classes are small to help focus on one-to-one support and each individuals’ needs. We offer courses in Hair, Beauty, Catering, Art, Media, Construction, IT and Employability, so we’ve got plenty of courses for you to choose from!

Our teaching staff are knowledgeable and have great industry experience.

Staff at The Skills Academy have had years of experience in their trades. Having this experience means that tutors are giving students hands on and practical lessons in the classroom which will prepare them for employment.

Learning at The Skills Academy is practical and hands on.

We have industry standard equipment in our classrooms where students can get stuck in and get ready for the work place. We have a construction room where there are workbenches for students to learn the trade, hairdryers, latest trend makeup and ovens for our hair, beauty and catering students to test their skills, computer suites for our media and IT courses to use computer software, and an outdoor area for our employability students to look after our animals and maintain the garden area.

You will receive all the help and support you need.

We have learning support and youth workers on hand to help with any of your needs. Whether that is in or out of the classroom, our team are here to support you.

The Skills Academy is a close knit college where people feel like a family.

With us having a smaller environment, students from every course get to know each other on their break times in our social areas. Our students have said they make lots of new friends while studying at The Skills Academy and that everyone is close.

We have great progression and pass rates.

We offer you the stepping stone you need for your future career. Students have gone on to study further on courses at The Skills Academy and Stockton Riverside College. Some have also gained employment or an apprenticeship.

You can take part in our Enterprise programme.

Our enterprise programme develops your entrepreneurial skills, and helps give you the life skills that employers look for. Current students have made products to sell on stalls at the college, such as, our construction learners have made home décor and art have made jewellery. Take a look at some of the items they made for our Christmas Fair here.

We have social areas where you can relax between lessons.

You can grab something to eat from our café and take a seat on our comfy sofas, or if you fancy filling your time with something a bit more active, you can play table football, chess or use the computers in our hub.

There is the opportunity to go on trips.

Students have been on plenty of trips to help develop their knowledge. They have been to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, York Dungeons, York Minster and London.
