Students from SRC Bede Sixth Form were given the chance to explore their next move after leaving college at a special progression event today.

The learners spent the morning at Durham University Stockton Campus where they were met by a variety of guest speakers.

With representatives from universities including Durham, York, Sheffield Hallam, Teesside, Northumbria, Bradford, Sunderland and Newcastle, all sharing an insight into university life, SRC Bede Sixth Form's careers co-ordinator Alice Atkinson said: "The purpose of today's event was to give students information about possible options available to them after leaving college."

The day also saw speakers from specific careers including the armed forces and police, talking about routes into their field.

Speaking to students about his own experiences as a police officer with Cleveland Police and talking them through the application process, Temporary Sergaent Scott Pearson, said: "As a police officer every day is different."

But, keeping it real, he admitted: "The job isn't for everyone. Some things you see and do are not nice, but some things can be brilliant."

SRC Bede Sixth Form has been holding its annual progression event for 18 years.

Careers co-ordinator Alice said: "We would like to express our appreciation to everyone who has contributed to today's event, to all the excellent speakers and of course to Durham University."
