Splitting the profits between Stockton-based charity, Reagan Jack Rainbows, and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, the students not only got to do their bit for charity but picked up some new skills along the way.

Founder of Reagan Jack Rainbows, Julie Young, popped into the college to express her thanks to the students in person.

“It is great that this group of young people thought of us,” said Julie, who launched the charity following the loss of her son, Reagan Jack, in 2015.

Reagan Jack Rainbows raises funds for the families of children with complex needs or life threatening illnesses, helping them to remain in their homes, while also providing a voice for parents.

The family’s story captured the nation’s hearts when they appeared on Channel 4’s series two of Benefits Street.

Julie said: “I still miss him every day. The charity helps to keep me going. Being able to help other families is great. I am overwhelmed by everyone’s support.”

The Prince’s Trust students who were taking part in The Prince’s Trust Achieve programme took advantage of Stockton Riverside College’s enterprise initiative to do their bit to help others.

Accessing an initial enterprise investment of £30, the pop-up tuck shop turned over a profit of £100, which was divided between the two charities.

Prince’s Trust leader Claire McGarvey said: “The students worked really hard, setting a target of £100 which they achieved.”

The Prince’s Trust Achieve programme is a personal development course for young people aged 13 to 19. It offers young people the chance to develop the skills and confidence needed to progress into a positive future.

The course can either be delivered as a short engagement programme to help young people find direction or it runs for a year developing a range of personal and employability skills and gain qualifications.
