Agencies and staff who have worked with YMCA Tees Valley’s Motiv8 scheme gathered at the college to share their experiences of the initiative.

“The main objective is to give young people the information they need to live a safe and happy life,” said Motiv8’s Ian Neale.

“It is helping them to stay safe around drugs and alcohol, health and wellbeing, as well as making young people aware that mental health isn’t something that they shouldn’t speak about.”

The Lottery funded scheme has delivered a wide range of informative sessions to students across Stockton and Middlesbrough, including Stockton Riverside College, as part of the college’s tutorial programme.

Student Services Manager Julie Wilson said: “The sessions have really helped and inspired our students, allowing them to make informed lifestyle choices so that they can go on to be well rounded citizens.”

Linda Ransom, the college’s Programme Course Leader for FdA Aviation and Tourism, said: “Our Level 2 and 3 Travel & Tourism learners gained valuable key transferable skills and an addition to their CV by completing the Level 2 First Aid at Work qualification with YMCA/Motiv8.

“This qualification will now put them in an excellent position when applying for employment in the aviation, travel and tourism sectors, as well as in their day to day lives.”

The event at Stockton Riverside College marked the culmination of the Motiv8 programme which has worked with 2,763 young people over the last three years.
