It's National Apprenticeship Week so we are putting the spotlight on some of our own apprentices this week.

Darren CockerillHere we meet joinery apprentice Darren Cockerill.

PD Ports clearly saw a spark in Darren. The former Macmillan Academy student has been snapped up by the port, shipping and logistics’ company. But before he could start work he was tasked with simultaneously completing both his Level 1 and Level 2 in Joinery at Stockton Riverside College.

Proving himself up to the challenge 18-year-old Darren has now started work onsite at Teesport. “Knowing that I had an apprenticeship really gave me the drive to achieve,” he says. “I’ve always been academically smart but I have to like a subject to get that same drive.” Fortunately for him, when it comes to inspiration, his apprenticeship delivers.
