Course Information
This programme provides an opportunity for the continuing professional development of qualified teachers working in the field of teaching adult literacy in the post-compulsory sector (further and adult education).
The course has been endorsed by Standards Verification UK (SVUK) as meeting the level 5 Subject Specifications for Teachers of Adult Literacy. This is now the mandatory minimum professional requirement for all adult literacy teachers involved in the delivery of literacy courses and qualifications from entry level to Level 2 (including GCSE English).
Please note:
75 hours teaching practice must be agreed and acknowledged in the application form by the teaching practice employer.
How you learn and are assessed
You will experience a variety of methods of teaching and learning including lectures, workshops and seminars. The range of assessment strategies includes a reflective teaching portfolio, an essay, analysis of discourse/text, formulation of a learner ILP and observations of four teaching practices.
Entry Requirements
English degree or successful completion of the UCCE Personal Skills in English , PGCE/Cert. Ed or equivalent.
Evidence of achievement at Level 2 in maths and Level 3 in literacy.
Initial diagnostic must be taken prior to acceptance on the course.
