Land Based - Skills for Working Life

The Land Based Course covers Entry Level 2 and 3 in the Conservation, Growing Plants and Small Animal Care pathways and is aimed at learners with learning difficulties and disabilities aged 16+. It also includes Personal and Social Development and Preparation for Work.

The course has a strong practical element with one day most weeks spent off-site visiting places such as pet stores, garden centres, community farms, veterinary practices and local parks. We have also developed strong links with Wynyard Woodland Park Nature Reserve where we do conservation-related activities and Stockton Borough Council where we have poly tunnels and an allotment area.

The course provides an excellent grounding for anyone hoping to work or volunteer in the conservation, gardening or animal care sectors.

Elements of the course include:

Working as Part of a Group – setting ground rules to work as part of a group. To work together to plan, do and review a group activity. Learners learn how to work with each other successfully and demonstrate their own abilities with the group.
