Edexcel National Diploma in Health and Social Care (Level 3)

This exciting course is specifically designed for those who are hoping to follow a career in health or social care. The aim of the course is to the develop skills and understanding that are necessary to become an effective professional in the health and social care sector. This course combines academic study with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in a placement setting.

Entry Requirements:
Four GCSEs at Grade C or above (including English Language and Maths or Science), an interview and two references.

Length of course: 2 years Full Time

Equivalent to: three A Levels

You will learn about:
• Background to the care sector
• Development through the life stages
• Sociological and psychological perspectives for health and social care

There are eighteen interesting topics of study in total which aim to develop a broad range of knowledge and skills related to the care sector.

Assesment:
All units are assessed by the tutor, there are no examinations.

Work Experience
An important part of the course is the work experience available. Here you will be expected to work in a variety of settings with children, older clients and clients with learning difficulties. In addition, there are other short courses available, such as sign language and First-Aid, which can add to your qualification profile. There are also opportunities for students to attend voluntary placements with organisations such as Vitalise.

Progression:
You can progress to university for further study or enter work-related and occupational qualifications in health and social care. Many students who have successfully completed this course have gone on to university to train as nurses, midwives and social care workers.
