(CACHE) Entry Level Certificate in Preparation for Childcare
This course will appeal to students who enjoy studying a subject that is relevant to their own lives, or those who want to take a step into further education and study a course that is active and enjoyable
Entry Requirements:
No particular entry requirements but you need to like being with babies and young children and have a willingness to learn and explore new ideas.
Length of course: 1 year
You will learn about:
• Pregnancy and the responsible parent
• Caring for young children 0-3 years
• Play and learning in the home
of 0-3 years
As well as covering the CACHE entry units, you will have the opportunity to continue to develop your basic skills in the areas of Literacy, Numeracy & ICT
You will also be able to develop further skills in a varied enrichment programme
Progression:
Progression onto a level 1 qualification.
(CACHE) Foundation Award in Caring for Children (Level 1)
The Foundation Award provides an opportunity to develop an understanding of how children grow and develop.
There are 7 units, 5 of which are assignment based.
The Award leads to a Certificate.
Entry Requirements:
At least two grade E passes at GCSE, one of which should be in a written subject.
(e.g English or History).
Length of course: 1 year
You will learn about:
• Caring for children
• Play and play activities
• Health and Safety in the home or group setting
• Food and nutrition
• Work experience
• Human growth and development
• Personal development
Progression:
Progression onto a level 2 qualification depends on achieving an overall distinction grade,
successful placement practice and a good level of attendance..
(CACHE) L2 Award / Certificate / Diploma in Childcare and Education
Entry Requirements:
Three D grade passes at GCSE (one subject must be English and
continuous writing subjects) and an interview and two references.
Length of course: 1 year
You will learn about:
• Different types of childcare facilities
•Your own role in the care and education of children
• The promotion of a caring yet stimulating environment for children
• Developing relationships with children and adults
You will develop practical skills by training in a variety of settings, covering a broad age range from babies to junior school children
Placement is required to complete the programme. You will undertake 3 placements covering different age ranges and settings.
Assesment:
The course is assessed through unit assignments, a multiple choice question paper
and placement performance.
Progression:
Progression onto a level 3 course or employment as a level 2 childcare practitioner.
