Entry Level BTEC Certificate in Skills for Working Life - Sport and Recreation

The entry level certificates are appropriate for a wide range of learners, this one in particular is relevant to those who wish to progress in sport and recreation.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but an interest in sport and recreation is important.

Length of course: 1 year

Core Units
3 of the following:

• Health and safety
• Assertiveness
• Personal presentation skills
• Rights and responsibilities

Specialist Units
• Investigating sport and recreation
• Sport and recreation practice
• Helping in a sports and leisure centre

In addition to the units outlined above you will also develop your basic skills in communication and numeracy in order to help you progress onto level 1.

As well as studying on this course you may wish to participate in recreational or competitive sport as part of the college's enrichment programme.

Progression
Learners may be able to progress on to the Introductory Diploma in Sport and Leisure.



BTEC Introductory Diploma in Sport and Leisure (Level 1)

This programme gives you an insight into the sport, health and fitness industry. You will develop your understanding of how the body works; investigate various aspects of practical sport, as well as participating in a varied range of sporting and fitness activities which may also include outdoor adventurous activities.

Entry Requirements
4 GCSE passes at grade E/F/G including English and Maths. You must also have a keen interest in participating in sport and fitness activities.

You will learn about
• Starting work in sport and leisure
• Working in sport and leisure
• A healthy body
• Taking part in sport
• Organising events
• Issues in sport and leisure
• Personal effectiveness
• Social responsibility

As well as studying on this course you may wish to participate in recreational or competitive sport as part of the college's enrichment programme. You may also study first aid and attend outdoor activity residentials.

Progression
The course is intended to provide a natural progression on the BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Performance) or Outdoor Education.
