Helena Kennedy Awards 2012

Since the Foundation began in 1998, it has supported over 1000 students from further education colleges and adult education institutes, to progress to higher education. All of these students have faced personal and financial hardship and worked hard to overcome barriers to continuing in education. Many of our award winners have now graduated and gained employment in a wide range of fields.

The Foundation provides bursaries of £1500 to support students whose personal and financial circumstances make progression to higher education difficult, but a Helena Kennedy Award is about much more than money. Our experience over the last twelve years has shown that offering students personal and practical support and opportunities throughout their time in higher education and beyond can improve a student's chance of success and ultimately enhance employability. The HKF award is a package of financial, personal and practical support and opportunities designed to support transition into higher education, enhance the student's experience at university and improve chances of employment after graduation.

Not sure which course you want to study? Unsure of what the course entails, how much it may cost and how much time you may need to commit to study? Keith and Carol are available to discuss our courses with you to ensure you know what you need to know before you enrol.

arrow icon2. On-course advice and guidance
Once you are studying your course, Keith and Carol work in partnership with your Course Tutors to resolve any enquiries you may have about your course and to help prepare you for the next stage. This involves helping you identify career and job opportunities and also looking at other courses you feel will help you further develop your skills and prospects. This also involves:

Keith and Carol are on hand to help you choose and apply for Higher Education courses at universities and other colleges. They have a great deal of experience in the application process, compiling “personal statements,” and preparing applicants for university course interviews. They liaise closely with Higher Education institutions in promoting university “open days” and other events aimed at giving you first hand information of university life and higher education finance issues.
