French


Speaking a foreign language is a practical and useful skill. Acquiring that skill develops confidence and the ability to communicate.


Course content

AS: You will learn French basic grammar from scratch as well as speak and read about topics to do with Society (youth culture, gender issues, education, future careers etc). and with Leisure and Lifestyle (travel and tourism, sport, hobbies, entertainment, health issues etc). Lessons are mostly taught in French.

A2: The two topic areas are Environmental Issues (including global warming, transport, energy, sustainability etc). and Social and Political Issues (including the role of media, racism, immigration, terrorism, globalization). In addition to this you will be given a choice of a range of modern films/texts to study in class.


Entry requirements

GCSE French to at least grade B is strongly recommended.


Method of assessment

Examinations for both AS and A2. Oral exams last 15 minutes for AS and 20 minutes for A2. You will be able to choose one of a range of cultural topics and prepare it for this exam.


Progression

Teacher, interpreter, translator, travel and tourism. French is a world language and the global markets offer a multitude of opportunities in fields such as international law and international finance.
