About Us
Our Curriculum...
Stockton Riverside College is a major provider of further education within the Tees Valley, providing vocational education and training to around 10000 full and part-time students in 2009-2010.
We have a dedicated team of management and staff, outstanding facilities and a proven track record in the delivery of vocational education.
The college works constantly to provide an excellent standard of education, training and support to all its students to enable them to become effective learners and achieve their goals in life.
We offer a broad curriculum that includes Performing Arts, Leisure & Tourism, Art & Design, Business Management, Technology, Health & Care, Humanities, and Continuing Education. The curriculum offers students enormous flexibility, not only in how they want to learn, but also when and where they want to.
A successful Virtual Learning Environment offers the opportunity for access to course information from home and a range of learning resources are offered through outreach or satellite centres resulting in a college that is truly community-based and built around the needs and expectations of local people.
Stockton Riverside College makes provision for a wide range of individuals, with approaching 2500 16-18 year olds and over 7000 adult learners in 2009-2010. The college is categorised by the Department for Education & Skills as one that reaches challenging markets and has a high widening participation ratio.
A Centre of Vocational Excellence...
Stockton Riverside College is a Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) in Performing Arts – one of only three across the country - and a collaborative CoVE in Childcare alongside Bishop Auckland and Tyne Metropolitan College. We are part of a network of specialist CoVE’s established by the Learning & Skills Council to build stronger links between education and business as well as providing a source of expertise for the training and development of highly skilled workers.
Our excellent performance standards have been recognised nationally and, as a result, our School of Performing Arts has an enviable reputation with an outstanding track record of students progressing to leading drama and dance colleges or directly into employment.
The aim of the Childcare CoVE is to make childcare a leading career choice, creating a training environment that delivers quality and caters for diversity as well as building bridges with employers and the wider business community.
CoVE status also ensures better opportunities are available and new courses are constantly being developed.
Stockton Riverside College & the Prince’s Trust...
We are the largest provider of Prince’s Trust programmes in the north of England and the second largest in the country. Prince’s Trust involvement enables the college to reach further groups of individuals in achieving meaningful routes to economic and social success.
Stockton Riverside College Prince’s Trust Faculty was awarded the LSC Delivery Partnership Award in November 2005 after delivering over 100 teams. In early 2006 the dedicated faculty made up of 25 staff went on to win the National Delivery Partner at a ceremony in London attended by HRH Prince Charles and HRH Duchess of Cornwall.
