Film Studies
This exciting course provides insight into the film industry as a business, as entertainment, and as an art form. It examines cinema as an institution responsible for producing and reflecting ideas about society and the individual. You will study many varied aspects of the film industry, including technology, production, distribution and exhibition.
Course content
The course studies cinema as an institution, film making, writing for film, critical approaches to British and World Cinema, critical approaches to Hollywood, with case studies on key films, leading actors and directors, with practical projects in script writing and film making.
Entry requirements
GCSE grade C or above in English is preferable.
Method of assessment
Assessment is by modular examination and coursework.
Progression
This course will prepare you for a broad spectrum of media related training and employment. You may also take this subject, to prepare you for many other academic disciplines and vocational work. Universities and employers alike will value the development of your critical abilities, research expertise, communication and writing skills. It is also an essential if you want to go on to specialist Film School to study practical film making and directing.
