Business Studies
Business organisations play an important role in your life. Everyday we all interact with businesses, use their products and make decisions as consumers of their services. You will use real examples and investigate real businesses in order to understand the key factors for success.
Course content
AS: The first module of the course involves looking at aims and objectives of business and the factors that influence decisions. In module 2 you will look at the key functions of a business; Marketing, Finance, Operations and Human Resources.
A2: In the second year you will be expected to take on a more critical role in terms of how you evaluate businesses. Using knowledge gained in the AS course you will be required to assess the performance of real businesses and identify how they can improve their performance.
Entry requirements
GCSE Business is not required. GCSEs in Maths and English at Grade C or above are strongly advised.
Method of assessment
Two written exams in AS and A-level year. Exams are based on real business scenarios and unseen case studies using a range of real businesses that will be known to students.
Progression
Whatever you do, voluntary or paid, public or private sector, profit or non-profit making, you will be working in a type of business organisation! An understanding of business principles is useful in any chosen career.
