Introduction

Introduction Few subjects are as central to our every day lives as Politics. It is about people and power- who gets it and how they use it. Politics focuses on studying the real world and understanding it better.

Politics combines well with all subjects especially History and Law.

Course Content

AS: You will learn about issues at the heart of the democratic process such as elections, influences on voting, pressure groups and political parties. You will also study Parliament, the PM and Cabinet, and government at different levels - local, regional and the EU.

A2: This goes on to focus on the politics of the United States. You will learn about the President, Congress, the Supreme Court, US parties and elections, etc.

Assessment

Written examination using short answer and extended essays, some of which will be based on newspaper articles and other source material.

Subject Entry Guidelines

GCSE English grade C or above is recommended. No previous knowledge of politics is needed for the course, but you do need an interest.

Career Opportunities

Studying Government and Politics will develop your abilities in lots of ways and prepare you for career opportunities in business, management, administration, local government, law, journalism and TV, teaching, the civil service, and financial services.
