Physical Education
Introduction
Sport has assumed tremendous importance in society. On individual, local, regional, national and international levels, whether professional or amateur, performance in sport matters. If you would like to understand this better, and to find out what influences good or poor performance in physical activity, this course could be for you.
Course Content
AS: You will learn about the anatomical, physical and psychological influences on performance. You will study the social, historical and cultural background to sport and physical activity, and you will be assessed on your active participation in a sport which could be individual, a team sport or outdoor pursuit.
A2: This course builds on the AS, re-visiting the main topic areas, looking at new aspects of each and exploring them in greater depth.
Assessment
External examinations and practical assessment for both courses.
Subject Entry Guidelines
You do not need to have studied PE at GCSE, but if you have you will find many of the ideas and concepts that you have already learned expanded on in this syllabus. A good background in science is preferable.
Career Opportunities
This A Level course is acceptable to all universities. There are many sports science, PE, sports and leisure management courses to choose from. You might consider this course if you want to pursue a career in teaching, physiotherapy, sports coaching, or leisure management.
