Course content
AS: Biological molecules; enzymes; cell ultrastructure; mitosis; gas exchange; plant biology; heart and circulation; biodiversity; classification; evolution; adaptations to the environment.
A2: Ecosystems; population dynamics; nutrient recycling; conservation; environment and sustainability; protein synthesis; genetic code; gene technology; cellular respiration; photosynthesis.
Entry requirements
Grade B or above in a separate biology HIGHER level or additional science HIGHER level is required (additional applied science is not accepted). Please contact us if you have any other Science qualifications. A minimum of grade C in both Maths and English is strongly advised.

Progression
Biology can lead to careers in medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, pharmacy, forestry, marine biology, veterinary science, industry and teaching - to name but a few. You develop a huge range of skills by studying biology - numeric, report writing, presentation, practical competence and an ability to analyse and investigate. These skills are transferable to a wide range of careers.
