Pre A Level Course - One Year
Introduction
Each year a number of students do not do as well as expected in GCSE. A good alternative to resit GCSEs is a vocational course, but there are some students who keenly want to start on the AS and A level route.
Experience clearly shows that some students need an extra year to attain 5 GCSEs or equivalent. The pre A level course will be specially designed for those with some GCSEs at C or above who are not qualified to start a full AS programme but have the capability of doing so over three years.
On a pre A level course you will have the opportunity to retake English, Maths or Core Science GCSEs. In addition you will be able to take a general humanities GCSE and the Edexcel Workskills course.
Where appropriate you may be able to start an AS subject, but the plan will be to take this over two years.
At the end of one year you would have your full level 2 qualification and if you do well you could have your first AS. In your second year you would start a full AS programme leading to A levels in the third year.
The pre A level option will be discussed with you at enrolment in August. This is not a GCSE repeat course.
